Athens wine tasting

If you are considering your move to Greece getting to know the food and culture of an area really helps. Wine is such a big part of Greek culture and they are becoming known on the wine stage in recent years however 80% is still consumed at home and therefore can be expensive out of Greece. Every taverna does produce their own table wine and this is usually very inexpensive.  A great place to start and learn all about the local wine is the “Athens wine tasting tour”

This Athens experience has the  tag line “take home a lifetime of memories” and I can say we certainly did take some memories with us and a great education on Greek wine too.

Everyone often finds it difficult to know what to buy a Dad for his birthday and this made the perfect birthday gift from our grown up kiddies. They booked through the airbnb experience , Athens wine tasting under the acropolis.

Location – The Athens Wine tasting is a short walk form Thissio station and a slightly longer one from Monasitaki metro station. Situated on the edge of Psiri and just off the main road, in a small side street.

About the experience – I really don’t want to create a spoiler alert and give too much away spoil with this post but I can safely say this tour is well worth it. Our sommelier Ilone was friendly, fun and full of great knowledge for her vocation, it is very clear to see she loves her job too.

We tried 5 different wines from different regions in Greece along with 5 very carefully selected cheeses to accompany the selection. The wine areas in Greece were fully explained in a way that even the wine novice can understand.

To truly discover a new place these experiences are proving invaluable and airbnb/experiences  are a great platform to find some unique and interesting adventures. Along with discovering great places to eat and stay in Greece it seems experiences are next on the list and we look forward to trying and sharing many more.

Safe Travels
